Tell us why you became a teacher

My sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Dowler, inspired me to become a teacher! I remember seeing her smile and hearing her sweet, kind voice always telling me that I could become anything I wanted to be! She was so encouraging and made everyone know their worth. As the oldest kids in the school, we all could not wait to get to the junior high school! I wanted that too, however I wanted Mrs. Dowler to come with me! I knew that I wanted to make that same impact one day!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Most of the students in my school, including myself, were not raised on farms. We try to expose our students to experiences that they would most likely never have. Through our 4H embryology program, we get an incubator, fertilized eggs, and hatch them. Well this particular year, none of my eggs hatched, but my students swore that they would. Rather than see them disappointed, I went out, bought some live chicks, and put them in the incubator the following morning! My mission was complete!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would take some sort of vacation, which I rarely do, and upgrade my teaching wardrobe! I would also do something for the teachers in our building, because we are all deserving of so much praise and appreciation!!
