Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

I wanted a meaningful job. Many young adults need encouragement and support to see their potential. Teenagers tend to dismiss parental praise because they see that as an obligation. Educators have a positive community impact by working with parents to develop and encourage the student's innate gifts. I am proud to have taught for all twenty years of my career in my former high school. I appreciate working with many of my high school teacher mentors as colleagues.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I travelled with a group of young women to London with EF tours. The experience is one of my treasured core memories of global learning beyond the classroom. We got to exist within the setting for several authors I taught during the school year. I will always appreciate seeing Wicked for the first time with them! We have stayed in contact and they continue sharing their experiences studying/traveling abroad beyond high school. I love celebrating their accomplishments!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have always wanted to get my doctorate. I would use the money to further my education. We need teachers and I would love to work on a college campus helping future teachers after retiring as a high school educator.
