Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to share my deep passion for history with the next generation and to be the supportive figure I desperately needed in high school. Battling mental health challenges, my relationship with my band teacher became my lifeline. I knew I had to become that safe haven for students facing similar struggles, providing the guidance and support they need to thrive.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

When my grandfather passed away, I inherited his Model T. This set the stage for my most memorable teaching experience: bringing history to life for my students by giving them a hands-on look at the mechanics of the Model T in action.

What would you do with the $25,000?

To provide my students with the best educational opportunities, I would use the $25,000 to pay off my grad school debt, allowing me to focus entirely on my teaching. The remaining funds would be dedicated to giving students access to enriching field trips. Working in a low socioeconomic community in rural Appalachia, our district lacks the resources to offer many, if any, field trips. I believe these experiences can truly enhance their education and broaden their horizons.
