Teaching is an intrinsic part of my identity, shaped by my upbringing in a resourceful rural family. As the oldest of many siblings, I naturally took on the role of caretaker, fostering a love for education early on. Teaching empowers students, nurtures critical thinking, and creates a safe environment for diverse perspectives. My experiences with foster children have deepened my empathy, driving my commitment to advocate for all students. Teaching is not just a profession; it’s my calling!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My teaching career spans from Pre-K to 12th, one of my most cherished experiences was guiding Pre-K students in their exploration of community helpers. Witnessing their enthusiasm as they selected a helper, researched, and did a presentation was amazing. The joy and engagement of those students were palpable, and the impact of this project resonated long after. A former student recently shared how much she loved that project, reaffirming the lasting influence of meaningful learning experiences.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I will help support my daughters' education by covering some of their college fees, so they can focus on their studies without financial stress. I also plan to invest in my school's science program by purchasing modern microscopes and slide sets, enhancing the learning experience for my students. If funds remain, I will assist my parents with essential home repairs, contributing to their comfort and well-being. The prize money will positively impact my family and community.
