Tell us why you became a teacher

Well, truly truly it was a fluke. I had studied languages in college and had been teaching English to adults before I got married. After we had children, we were looking for a school for them and found a perfect place. I started volunteering there and fell in love with being around the kids. I started teaching Spanish to lower school children, which then evolved into teaching Latin as well. What started 29 years ago still continues. I love being around children. I love how their minds work!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are many experiences that I could write about teaching children, especially working with elementary school children. As they say children say the darndest things. There are many days when I don’t feel my very best but whenever I have one of those there’s always that one or two child that says I love you, you look so beautiful today, you are the bestest teacher of all time. Also, when I see children get it, when that moment comes into their lives and they “get it”!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would most definitely give a part of it to our school, private schools, find themselves with financial problems consistently. So there is no doubt that I would give part of it to our school. I would also share part of it with my students by having a big big celebration! The rest, I would probably spend on a trip with. my growing family.
