Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I felt every teacher gave up on me as a child, and I wanted to ensure no student ever felt that way. Losing my mother at a young age taught me the importance of having someone who believes in you. Teaching became my second career because I realized my true purpose was to inspire and support students, no matter their circumstances. I want every child to know they are capable, valued, and worthy of success, just as I wish someone had shown me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment as a teacher was during one of the toughest times in my life, before my liver and kidney transplant. I was sick and passed out in class, and despite their young age, my students showed incredible maturity and compassion. I’ll never forget one student, barely 90 pounds, trying to help me up with all their strength. Their care and resilience reminded me why I teach—to inspire and support amazing kids who, in turn, inspire and support me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were honored to win the $25,000, I would use some of it to enhance my classroom and support my students, providing them with better resources for learning. Additionally, I would fulfill a lifelong dream of taking a historical trip to Europe with my wife. Visiting historical landmarks and exploring Europe's rich history would not only be a personal milestone but also a way to enrich my teaching by bringing firsthand experiences back to my classroom.
