Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my students, especially those in my Title I school who often face challenges like low confidence and limited support at home. I strive to create a safe, nurturing environment where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed. My passion is helping them discover their potential, connect learning to real-world experiences, and build the confidence to achieve their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A memorable teaching experience involved a student who often struggled with behavior. I stayed firm yet caring, focusing on the whole child. Though he moved up a grade, he visits me daily. One day, he told me I was the only one who understood him. Later, I learned he was homeless, hungry, and his parents were in jail. I hadn’t known his situation at the time but had unknowingly provided the care and stability he needed. That moment reinforced the importance of compassion in teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would create opportunities for my students, who live in a high-poverty area and often lack access to the resources of their urban counterparts. I would fund hands-on learning experiences like field trips, technology, and classroom materials to enrich their education. Additionally, I’d provide essential supplies to ensure no child is at a disadvantage. This investment would help bridge the gap, inspire confidence, and show my students they are capable of achieving greatness.
