Returning to my hometown to teach art is my way of giving back. I connect with my students, helping them use art to express themselves and see their potential. Despite budget challenges, I advocate for resources and create community partnerships. My diverse students’ cultures shape our projects, making learning meaningful. Through exhibitions and murals, I show them art’s impact. Teaching here isn’t just a job—it’s a mission to inspire and uplift the next generation.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was when a talented student, who once doubted an art career, earned a full-ride scholarship to art school. She worked tirelessly, refining her skills and building a stunning portfolio. When she showed me her acceptance letter, I burst into tears. Seeing her talent recognized and knowing she could pursue her passion without financial burden was unforgettable—it proved the power of believing in your art.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I’d buy pottery wheels for my students, giving them hands-on ceramic experience. I might use some to pay off student loans and invest in my own growth. Beyond that, I’d love to start an art scholarship fund to support young artists or even open an urban pottery studio, creating a creative space for the community. However the winnings are spent, the goal is the same—expanding access to the arts and inspiring future artists!
