Tell us why you became a teacher

I was drawn to teaching because I loved school growing up and I made amazing relationships with teachers at every level of school. I will always remember Mr Megan’s standing on his desk and singing, and Mrs Montgomery playing 9square and crushing us! I wanted to make a difference and build relationships with students like my teachers did for me!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I really think each year’s successes and joys are an accumulation of small moments. We have a Star Wars themed room and as my students learn the routines of our room, we call it “The Marsh Way”. We celebrate May the 4th and have a Star Wars music battle and a fun party that always thrills the kids! One year, I had a student invite me to their hockey game and I’ll never forget the joy on his face when I actually showed up. When a student who cried and screamed at me ends the day hugging me tight.

What would you do with the $25,000?

It’s boring, but first I would pay my credit card debt that I got behind in after we moved half way across the country! Then, I would finish up our home gym (barbell and a rower and an echo bike)! And lastly, I would take myself, my partner, and my stepson on our first big vacation as a family! Can’t wait for us to travel together!
