Tell us why you became a teacher

I initially pursued a degree in psychology and worked with individuals with mental disabilities. While the work was meaningful, it was also emotionally draining. One day, I came across a job posting for an after-school program teaching French. I decided to give it a try, and that experience changed everything for me. Seeing young children’s curiosity, laughter, and eagerness to learn made me fall in love with teaching. I found education both rewarding and inspiring.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was when my sixth-grade students in Kansas City won a transatlantic contest on green spaces between France and America. Their dedication and teamwork were inspiring. After months of hard work, their project was recognized as the winning entry, showcasing their commitment to environmental awareness and collaborative learning. Seeing their pride and joy reaffirmed my passion for teaching and its profound impact on students' lives.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would invest in expanding STEM education for elementary students, particularly through hands-on learning experiences. I would develop a community STEM program, providing access to resources like robotics kits, coding tools, and environmental science projects. Additionally, I would use part of the funds for professional development to enhance my teaching skills and bring innovative approaches to the classroom, ensuring students are prepared for a rapidly evolving world.
