Tell us why you became a teacher

I have a strong desire to contribute to the shaping young minds, impact students in a positive way, and contribute to their community by helping students fulfill their dreams. I have a love, motivation and passion for sharing knowledge. I play a vital role in preparing my students by shaping values and supporting the next generation. I feel that teaching is a rewarding experience, providing a sense of accomplishment when students succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I was fortunate enough to start the first private American school on the island of St. Maarten. I was sent to the island by a private school owner in Ohio, to teach in a house with twelve students of various ages and levels. Many students did not speak English as their first language and had never experienced this type of school setting. I was there for three years, and currently the school has grown into an elementary and high school. It was the most rewarding, special experience of my life.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would donate the money to my current school to enhance Ron Clark Academy's House System. Each student is assigned to one of six Houses and has the opportunity to participate in House-specific events and activities throughout the year. This sense of belonging helps students feel more connected to their school and peers, which leads to greater engagement and motivation in their studies. This system reduces behavior problems, increases attendance, raise tests scores, and improve school climate.
