I love when my students grasp a concept we have been working on. I love to see their Ah Ha moments when they are making the connection.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I did not start my career as a teacher. I was employed in the financial field. It was after I had worked for two companies that decided to cut back on employees and downsize that I reflected and decided that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. At that moment, I decided to return to school and become a certified teacher. If I could go back in time knowing what I know now, I would have chosen that career path in the beginning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment happened last school year. I had a student who was struggling with reading. We take three reading assessments each year, one in the fall, one in the winter, and the last in the spring. In the fall this student tested at a kindergarten level, by the last assessment she was ahead of grade level and tested at a 4th-grade reading level. I helped this student believe in herself and she was able to succeed.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay off some bills, and take a vacation with my husband. He has been very patient with me when I have brought homework to do for school and deserves to be treated as well. If there is any extra I would invest in my retirement account and donate to a local animal rescue. I have three daschunds that are all rescue dogs.
