I love teaching, because it gives me an opportunity to build long lasting friendships and inspire young people to love learning.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to instill a love for education amongst students who typically come to school for everything but education.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My memorable moment as a teacher was learning that I had most growth in lower performing students. When the principal had come to my room and hugged me, I was looking silly. He said that with all his years in special education, he had never had a sped student recite, explain, and give examples of citing text evidence. Knowing that my unorthodox teaching style is being retained and used with my students mean the world to me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use a portion to update my classroom. A large portion would go to my son’s college funds. I would also put aside money to help some of my students. I always keep deodorant, lotions, toothbrushes and paste, clothes, and snacks for my less fortunate students.
