Tell us why you became a teacher

Becoming a teacher has always been my lifelong dream, but it was my Honors English 11 teacher, Mrs. Lisa Hassell-Forde, who solidified that passion. Her unwavering support and guidance ignited a desire in me to pay it forward. Just as others helped shape my journey, I am driven to empower youth by providing them with opportunities to succeed and thrive. Through teaching, I have the privilege of making a lasting impact—empowering students, sparking their creativity, and unlocking potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was mentoring at-risk students from my old neighborhood. Despite their struggles, I showed them their environment didn’t define their future. Through guidance, belief, and support, I helped shift their mindset. They often tell me I was their best teacher. I also trained students for steelpan competitions, leading them to become Grand Champions. Their success and gratitude reaffirmed the transformative power of belief, love, and dedication.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would pay off personal debts and establish two scholarships to alleviate students' financial burdens. This initiative reflects my belief in giving back the support that helped me succeed. By investing in their present and future, I aim to empower young individuals with the tools, opportunities, and resources they need to thrive.
