Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I understand the transformative power of great teachers and the lasting impact they can have. I was fortunate to experience that throughout my education, but I know many, like my mother, were not as lucky. She struggled because her learning style wasn't recognized or nurtured, leaving her discouraged. I wanted to change that narrative. I love working with kids. I’ve always been driven to be the change I wished to see ensuring every child feels seen, valued, and capable

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was watching a special education student’s confidence and independence come full circle. She struggled in literacy, relying on accommodations, but we worked hard to build her skills. When we removed her reader and scribe support, she doubted herself. With goal-setting and encouragement, she took the MAP test solo and excelled. Seeing her pride and happy tears was overwhelming . She proved to herself that she was truly capable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000, I’d invest in my students, personal development, and my family. I’d enhance my classroom with more technology, a diverse library, SEL programs, hands-on learning experiences, and offer more student incentives. For myself, I’d prioritize wellness, take a vacation, and set aside some money for savings to benefit both myself and my future children. Lastly, I’d support my family and friends where needed, ensuring a positive impact beyond the classroom.
