I became a teacher because of the impact a teacher has on society. I did not start my adult life in education, starting in sales. I was going through my daily routine missing a key component to my life. The impact a teacher has gives my life meaning. Building strong relationships so students enjoy school, bringing Science to life in the classroom, and seeing the "AH-HA" moment in a student's face all keep me coming back.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment was this year teaching 6th grade. Some of the science teachers decided to demonstrate for students the capabilities of water. We showed students the specific heat properties of water. Using gas and adding it to the water we showed students how the water will protect you from fire. We “lit” ourselves and some of our colleagues on fire protecting them with the power of water!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000 I would use it to pay off my student loans that I have accrued in becoming a teacher. Having multiple Master's degrees to be able to be a highly qualified teacher, I have a lot of student debt. This money would help me pay off a lot if not all of it. With the remaining money, I would help my school community. I work in a low-income area and being able to support our families would make a positive impact on them as well.
