Tell us why you became a teacher

My family moved when I was in third grade. I struggled leaving friends behind and was uncertain how I would survive in a new school. My teacher welcomed me and made sure I found a group of friends to do the same. I strive to be the person to give my students that same sense of belonging.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I am a first year teacher and have had lots of memorable moments already. The one that sticks out the most was not in the traditional classroom setting. One student has been struggling to behave in class. We've had multiple meetings concerning his behavior. This particular day Iwas able to spend time with just him. We spoke as much as possible, this student has selective mutism. I explained that it was not okay to hurt others and spoke about how it makes him feel when others are mean.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I started my career late and would start by adding half of the money to my retirement fund. Next I would take my family on a cross country trip. I would love to see the states and visit national parks. Anything leftover I would save and find worthy causes to donate to.
