Tell us why you became a teacher

I first became a teacher (22 years ago) because I thought It would be a great to empower children with the love of learning. I quickly learned that it wasn't me that was teaching kids- they were teaching me! I am constantly learning new ways to challenge kids, to bring books alive, to create fun projects, to listen, to be empathetic , and to be their safe place.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I wouldn't be the teacher I am today without my two angel students. In 2023 I lost two students to brain cancer. This was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. I had to make sure each day was THE BEST day, knowing it might be their last. This taught me that every student might not have a terminal disease, they still deserve to have an amazing day! To this day I celebrate everything... Even the little things. My hope is that the kids leave my classroom knowing they are special and loved

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use $25,000 to help pay for my daughters college tuition. She will be graduating in June. Our income is not allowing her to go to the school she wants to, this gift would give her the gift of a great education.
