SpEd teacher, I love helping my students realize they can, finding strategies to support them, and celebrating every step of their success.

After 20+ years as a SpEd para, I became a teacher because I love seeing students realize they can succeed. The moments when a concept finally clicks, the connections built along the way, and the joy of making learning fun inspire me. Most of all, I want every student to know they are capable, valued, and worthy. Teaching gives me the chance to make that impact every day.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceIn my first year as a certified special education teacher (24th total), I have a student who always said, "I can't." No matter what, doubt crept in before they even tried. After weeks of scaffolding support, they solved a problem on their own. They looked at me, wide-eyed, and said, "Wait... I did it?!" That moment- that shift from I can't to I can- is why I love what I do. Seeing them believe in themselves is everything. They can succeed.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won the $25000 prize, I would use some to pay on my car and a take trip and some to do something great for my students. Maybe adaptive technology or hands-on learning to make lessons more engaging and accessible. I'd fund special projects that build confidence, life skills, and career readiness, helping my students see their potential beyond classroom.
