Rozy Snider

Being an art teacher is the most rewarding job. Seeing the children light up when they create a piece they are proud makes it all worth it!

Tell us why you became a teacher

It came a little later in life, like a second chapter. I volunteered in my children’s school and realized I enjoyed being around children and seeing them light up when they realized they learned something. Being an artist seemed liked the perfect fit to become an art teacher to foster their creativity.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Over the 16 years there have been many but one that I think of most is a a child with Down syndrome in the third grade would come to the art room door each time and say, “I hate art!” Sometimes he would roll his eyes and not want to come in. I continued to work with him and praise him and give him the chance to try different mediums. By fifth grade he said “I love art!”. That was rewarding for him and me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to give some to my church for our mission's program. Being able to pay off some of our family bills would be helpful and then for myself I’d like to fix up my basement studio where I do my pet portraits.
