I didn’t intend to become a teacher. I began subbing at the school I attended and fell in love with the role. I love the opportunity to build trust and meaningful relationships with my students in order to aid them in becoming the best version of themselves.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience occurred teaching at a summer arts program at the Children’s Museum. One student was struggling with the lesson: tying knots. Recognizing his frustration I pulled him to the side to work with him one on one. The smile that exploded on his face when he completed his first knot cemented in me that I want to be an art teacher.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I was awarded the prize I would put it towards obtaining a masters degree. A masters degree would aid me in building pedagogy that supports every child. It is important to me that every student feels seen and included in the art room.
