Tell us why you became a teacher

I took sports medicine in high school and my teacher completely changed the trajectory of my life. He mentored me during and after school, taught me so much more than just sports medicine, and I saw the major impact he made on my life. I decided that's what I wanted to do too. I originally went to school for athletic training and teaching, but the more teaching classes I took, the more passionate I got about the subject and its ability to be such a positive influence.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I think my most memorable teaching experience was the first day I introduced dance day into my spin/yoga class. We have short classes on Wednesdays and I decided to try something new; so my classes learned a simple line dance and then did some Just Dance from YouTube. It was a HUGE hit and everyone loved it. I had students tell me they needed to leave their next class because they were still sweating. And we've done dance day every Wednesday for 3 years now.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would probably use some of it to travel. I love going new places and exploring new cultures. My hope is to visit all 7 continents so this would definitely help with Antarctica. And since I'm so busy during the school year, it's great to spend time with my husband when I do get time off. I'm also a foster parent so this would help with just every day things for any kids we do bring in, plus extra fun things and activities to do together.
