Robin Keith

I love when my students get so excited about a topic and have so many questions. I teach kindergarten which is such a special year.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I was working in the corporate world when my son entered kindergarten. I was able to take every other Friday off and volunteer in his classroom. Seeing and feeling the difference, I could make caused me to quit my job, go back to school to get my credential, and I ended up getting a position teaching kindergarten. I knew I could make a real difference with young children. I knew that whatever I did in the corporate world could never measure up.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable moments are the days when a student who has been struggling suddenly gets it!!! Reading suddenly clicks!!! The joy and pride on their faces is just not comparable to anything else! Of course, there are funny moments: “Joe, your shoes are on the wrong feet.” “No. These are my feet Mrs. Keith.”

What would you do with the $25,000?

I plan to retire in a year. Since I came to teaching later in life (age 40), my pension will not be as abundant as someone who has taught since graduating college. So $25,000 would add a welcomed boost for sure!
