Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I am in love with my school community. I am an alumnus of my school (Xaverian in Brooklyn, NY). Many musical and academic opportunities were afforded to me while I was a student. It is my mission to provide my students with similar opportunities, and to do my part to bring up the next generation of creative musicians.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I am fortunate to work with my husband. He and I are responsible for the drama program at our school: a fall drama and spring musical with grades 9-12, and a musical with grades 6-8. This is our 8th year co-directing. Our first show was Beauty & the Beast in ‘18. At the time my brother was a senior, and he played the narrator. So, in my ten years of teaching the most memorable experience is the moment I struck the overture from the pit that opening night with my students and family.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I teach a harp ensemble program. Students can learn to play the harp as a beginner and take it all the way through high school with the goal of continuing in college. I am the first alumnus of this program so a my work is to pay it forward to my students. I show them how to live a musical life. I play the harp, and other instruments, all day at school and then as a freelance musician I spend the rest of my time practicing, performing, and composing. I would use the money to buy a new harp.
