Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be able to provide individualized instruction to meet each students' unique needs. Every child has the right to an outstanding education, and by understanding their strengths, challenges, and learning styles, I can tailor lessons and strategies that maximize their learning outcomes. My goal is for every student, no matter their needs, to receive the best education they can get.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my students, who had been struggling with his social and communication skills, de-escalated himself after a peer interaction. We had been working together for 2 years using different individualized strategies that help him self-soothe. When he successfully overcame the peer interaction, the look of pride on his face was unforgettable. It was a powerful reminder of why I teach—to see that moment of success and to know I helped him build the confidence to apply this skill in real life.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it to further enrich my students educational experiences. I could provide them access to additional resources and tools that will meet their individual needs, such as online programs, adaptive technology, and sensory tools. I could also use it to provide professional development opportunities that will improve differentiated teaching and further develop skills for working with students with behaviors.
