Tell us why you became a teacher

I’ve always had a passion for music, and teaching allows me to pour into the next generation of creatives. Growing up in a single-parent home, I could have become a product of my environment, but my favorite teacher saw my potential, challenged me, and inspired me to invest in students the way she invested in me. Music has opened doors for me, and I hope to do the same for my students while growing and learning from them in return.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment was when a 6th grader who had lost her mother before school started told me I was like a mother to her. It overwhelmed my heart with gratitude, reminding me that teaching is more than just lessons—it’s about being what students need in their most vulnerable moments. Knowing I could provide comfort and stability in her life reaffirmed why I show up every day.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in my school’s choir program! As a donor-funded school, we need uniforms, recording equipment, and funds for field trips. I’m introducing my students to studio recording, so part of the money would go toward trips to recording studios and colleges, as well as professional gear. The rest would help me pay off debt and go toward a car, allowing me to continue pouring into my students with excellence.
