I became a teacher for a several reasons. I love young people! They energize and motivate me to be a better person. I can model for them what it truly means to treat everyone with respect and compassion in a world where it is often lacking by the most popular of faces. I am able to encourage and inspire my students to find their own voice, and to have confidence in it and themselves. I am not "just a teacher." I am a coach, counselor, mentor, friend, and, for some, even a parental figure.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are SO many countless moments for which I am grateful. I was asked to give the commencement address by a graduating class. I was honored and in awe of their request! Also, colleagues and I, we created a "Signing Day" for graduating Seniors who were going into Education. We set it up just like student-athletes committing to a college as we welcomed them into our "family." I LOVE being invited to their weddings, meeting babies, and receiving random messages via social media & SO MANY MORE!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would love to travel and take a class or two abroad. In the past, I traveled more frequently, but my circumstances & financial constraints have changed. I know these experiences enrich my teaching, offering students a window into the world—especially for those who have never left the state. This opportunity would be life-changing, for me as a teacher, but also for my students. As a mother, grandma, & dedicated teacher, I strive to give my best so they can become their best.
