I love teaching because I get to see my students' wins, be their biggest advocate, build close relationships, and be a good role model.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a teacher. The special education aspect became my focus in 6th grade when I saw my best friend with ASD struggle. It broke my heart, and I realized I wanted to be the teacher he never had. I also have a learning disability, and the support from my parents and teachers gave me the confidence to achieve my goals. I want to be that source of encouragement and support for someone else.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

On my last day of student teaching at an elementary school, my mentor teacher and I joked about me singing and playing for the kids. I thought it was a joke and said no way. On the last day, he gathered all my students and announced I was going to sing and play for them. He handed me a ukulele, and I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. The kids loved it; the room was full of smiles. After, a student came up to me and said he was going to face his fear and try riding his bike again.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I'm currently getting my master's degree and aspire to get my doctorate to inspire future educators. I also want to conduct research about ASD and write a book about my findings!
