Phillip Skipper

As a PE teacher, there isn’t anything more enjoyable than seeing students smile when they accomplish something. That is why I love my job!

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I felt like I could make a difference in someone’s life the way a few of my teachers did for me as a child. I love the feeling I get when something just “clicks” for a student and they thank me for explaining something to them in a way that they can now understand. Making a difference is true power!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have so many over the last two decades as a P.E. teacher with Chicago Public Schools. It makes me feel like I made a difference when former students, now adults, come back and tell me they tried this or that because of the information I shared with them when they were in my class.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had the opportunity to win $25,000, I would pay off some bills and then put the rest in my 9 year old daughter’s college fund. I feel like college is a very important step in a child’s life and one shouldn’t be limited on such a major life changing decision based on finances or lack there of.
