I want to inspire a love for learning, an openness to be their true self, and to encourage perseverance no matter what life gives them.

When I was in college I had my daughter. As she grew, I realized how much I loved teaching her things about the world around her. I knew then that I needed to become a teacher for those students who aren't straight A's, all around good kids. I had a past of being a decent student, but never really believing in myself till I was in 7th grade, thanks to a wonderful teacher. I hope to inspire underprivileged, labeled students to continue to keep trying and to not give up.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable moment would be all of the times that I was given a "difficult" student and grew strong, respectful relationships with them. One gifted me a bear at the end of the year. Said he had used all of his money to purchase it for me as I was the first teacher who truly saw him for himself. He has continued to reach out year after year to keep me updated on his success and to remind me of what an impact I made on his life.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would invest in supplying my school with necessary items for science labs, STEAM projects, and having designated area for student needs such as deodorant, clothing, etc. I would like to take my family on a vacation to somewhere nice like Washington, DC to see the museums. And if there is any money left, I would donate to local charities such as Isiah House 117, Washington County Animal Shelter, Agape Women's services, and the Bristol Y youth program.
