Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always had a passion to work with children. I became a teacher to make a difference in a childs life, specifically special education. I believe every child deserves a chance for equal opportunity and specialized instruction to ensure all needs are met. I became a teacher to inspire and be that safe space and reliable consistent adult in a childs life. I love seeing the growth that is made and encouraging my students each and every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience was working with a student who was nonverbal, diagnosed with autism and dealt with very negative feedback from outside providers discouraging students growth. I motivated and supported this student each and every day, providing positive encouragement and implementing specialized instruction to meet their needs. While working with this student, they were able to independently navigate their AAC device and begin verbally talking (something doctors never thought).

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would begin by paying off my student debt. Unfortunately my debt is around $25k so I would not have much left over. Any remaining would go towards purchasing materials and regulation tools to help ensure needs are met within the general education classroom for my student to ensure for an inclusive learning space!
