Tell us why you became a teacher

When I was in eighth grade I was quite the outsider,awkward and feeling very isolated, my English teacher took an interest me. She encouraged my writing and even elevated me to editor of the school paper. As I sat in her class, I decided I wanted to make a difference i. The lives of young people like myself.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

After 43 years it’s difficult to come up with one so I will share that the memorable moments are when a child looks at you and says that now they understand. Or, when a child trusts you enough to take you into their confidence and shares their fears and hopes and dreams. I have an essay from a student that she wrote as a senior in high school. She describes how my room made her feel welcome and safe. She goes on to tell how I helped her through that year by sharing my life’s experiences.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to help my granddaughters further their education The 19 year old wants to go into marine biology. The 18 year old would like to go into law enforcement.
