Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I learned early on that I was blessed with a gift! My gift is the ability to teach mathematics and teach the love for learning. How do I do this? I first get to know my students and show them that I care and that I am their champion. Regardless of background, experiences, socioeconomic status, language proficiency, disabilities, I will pour into each and every student and give them all the tools and resources needed to be successful and surpass their own expectations.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment in teaching was watching my first group of students graduate. The looks on their faces and the looks on their parents faces demonstrated the notion that “they made it”. Every year I go to graduation, and every year it remains the most heartfelt moment and the reassurance that my hard work is worth it! I am currently an Assistant Principal and continue to pour into students, teachers, and families!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have been in education for almost 11 years right now and am pursuing a doctorate. The education field is underpaid and hence, I would use this to support my advanced degree. I would also, use some funds to finish renovating my home.
