I became a teacher because I’ve always loved working with kids. I want to be there to encourage and foster growth in kids who need a nurturing environment to learn. I became a teacher to help educate the future decision makers and leaders of the world. I want my students to go into the world equipped with the tools and ability to access and understand resources to help them make the world a better place.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience happened this past fall while on an overnight trip with my 7th graders. We were in northern New Jersey in October for an ecological exploration at a YMCA Camp and were fortunate enough to see the northern lights. Being outside that evening, with all of 7th grade students, my chaperones, and colleagues, witnessing a bucket list event all together was awe inspiring. Students’ curiosity lead to questions and discussions and further exploration of the night sky.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would spend the $25,000 prize money taking my children on a vacation to see the most amazing parts of our country. Being able to bring them to Yellowstone or Yosemite National Parks, or to the Grand Canyon, or Arches National Park, would be the most memorable way to use the prize money. Bringing my own children closer to nature and giving them the opportunity to see geologic processes and the ancient history of earth right before our eyes would make me the happiest teacher and mother!
