Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my grandfather—a man I never met but who deeply inspired me. For 30 years, he taught science in the Oxnard Elementary School District, leaving a lasting impact on his students. Just three years after his passing, the district honored his legacy by naming a school after him—Robert J. Frank Elementary. His dedication to education motivates me every day to continue his work and make a difference in the lives of my students.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

As a 6th-grade teacher at a junior high, my most memorable moment was when a student gave me a note after a Second Step lesson on social-emotional learning. She shared how much the lesson impacted her, reminding me that my role goes beyond academics—I am also a mentor. Moments like these reinforce why I’m passionate about teaching and the lasting difference I can make in my students’ lives.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would invest in materials to support and enrich my students' learning. I’d also use the funds to help with our ADU project, easing the burden of our 7% mortgage on our new home. As a dedicated teacher and mother of two, this gift would provide much-needed relief and allow me to prioritize self-care—something that often takes a backseat while caring for my students and family. This opportunity would truly make a life-changing difference for us.
