I love teaching because it allows me to create and foster a love of learning in my students, as well as showing them that someone cares.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because when I was in high school I tutored other students through my school. I found that helping others to better understand things brought me real joy. My tutoring experience also helped me to understand that math came easier to me than it did to others and I enjoyed trying to solve math problems.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I would say that my most memorable teaching moment came in my first year of teaching. I was talking with my 8th graders about li ear equations and helping them to understand what the different parts of the equation meant in the context of the problem. I was working with a student and asking them advancing questions and got to watch my very first light bulb moment as they understood what the parts of the equation meant in terms of the problem. The student was so very thankful and happy.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Pay off some of my student debt, as well as using it to help build a my life with my wife, who I just married in November.
