Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a special ed teacher because I’m all about turning challenges into victories! I’ve always loved helping kids who march to the beat of their own drum, and I wanted to create a space where they can shine in their own unique way. Then, having my son gave me a front-row seat to understanding diverse learning needs. It was the perfect mix—my heart, my skills, and a whole lot of determination to help kids succeed and feel seen!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was attending the college graduation of a student I mentored since 9th grade. I noticed her struggles with personal challenges and stepped in to support her. As her teacher and coach, I watched her grow into a confident, determined young woman who graduated college in three years and is now pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. Her journey inspired me to help many more students like her, reminding me how one act of care can truly change a life.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, my answer would probably be pretty boring. First, I’d use it to pay off my student loans—unless they get forgiven, which would be amazing. If I didn’t need to put it toward loans, I’d likely invest the money or place it into savings for the future. While it’s not the most exciting use of the money, having financial stability and being debt-free would bring peace of mind and allow me to focus on other goals, like helping others or planning for long-term opportunities.
