Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of the great teachers I have had in the past. It’s now my turn to continue inspire others, to pass on the knowledge and gifts that was shared with me, and create great experiences in band, for students now. Through music we learn so much more than notes & rhythms! Through my bands, I teach, we gain skills needed to be a good citizen, be a hard and productive worker, and great communicator with excellent work ethic. We all have to trust the process and be consistent.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Leading a marching band to New York City to perform in the Vetetans Day parade. 1 of 5 High school bands that were selected in 2018. Took a lot of fundraising to be able to go, which was a huge team effort. Amazing time for the students, parents and staff that were a part of trip, and performance! I won’t forget being a part of 40,000 people that were in that parade! It was a long parade, and the students represented our school well. They were tired! Longest and biggest parade I’ve experienced!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I put these funds toward our auditorium. Our concerts and musicals are getting bigger and better. I would get the school on board for updating the second level of the auditorium, have them match funds as well as reaching to the community. Our music department is gaining momentum at the small school I currently teach at. There’s so much potential there, this 25k would be a big jump start, for more seating we need in our auditorium to showcase our performers and the fruits of their labors!
