Tell us why you became a teacher

I have first hand experience of how there is a need for people in the construction trades. But now I absolutely love what I do. I take ownership of my kids and some of them are my kids for life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are 2. First, we open up our home to past and present students on Thanksgiving and it is huge. This year we had 2 turkeys, 3 hams, and I lost count of canned corn. So much corn I had to buy a new can opener Thanksgiving morning. Second, one of my students came to take me out to lunch but went by the local ford dealership to pick up his brand new truck. This is a kid who lived off of foodstamps and is now a union Millwright.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Help my kids. Saturday morning I'm taking one of my kids to get new glasses and Saturday afternoon I'm getting a new alternator to put on another kids car. I help where I can but I also need a new washing machine. Teacher pay sure doesn't pay what construction did but I never dread coming to work now.
