Tell us why you became a teacher

Tutoring math since I was in High School sparked a realization: sharing that understanding was incredibly rewarding. As an ENL student, I struggled with math in elementary school and good teachers made all the difference. I wanted to be that difference for others. Teaching isn't just about formulas; it's about fostering curiosity, building confidence, and empowering students with critical thinking skills. It's challenging, but the belief in every student's potential keeps me going.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Introducing my iPad over 10 years ago transformed my 7th-grade math class. Accustomed to EnoBoards, they were mesmerized. Writing directly on the iPad to display on the board? Snapping photos of their work to instantly share? A variety of colors and highlighters? Zooming in and out with ease? Genuine "woahs" echoed. It wasn't just tech; it was a shift. Teaching math became dynamic, interactive, and exciting. That day, I witnessed technology’s power to spark curiosity and revolutionize learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I'd boost my classroom and my skills. A chunk would fund iPads and educational apps, creating engaging, personalized learning experiences. I'd also invest in myself, pursuing an educational leadership certificate. This would equip me to be a more effective teacher and leader, benefiting my students and the school. Coursework in curriculum, management, and instruction would create a richer learning environment.
