Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher after I was a teacher assistant for over 9 years. I fell in love with the career and as a mother, I get to give love to my students. It takes patience and knowledge along with virtue and respect to stay in the field of sped education. My father has been the greatest impact in my decision making as he himself is a teacher as well. I want to make a difference within aspects of an equal education, equal treatment and tender care for students who have multiple disabilities

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience would be working with my student jenai, I can remember when she and I both were new to the school, she has traveled with my throughout the good and bad as she is my focus student for the year. Last year we worked on connecting two pictures to create a sentence since she is non-verbal, this year she is able to connect 3 pictures when engaging in activities to answer and ask her peers questions. For this, I am very proud of jenai and myself for working hard.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With 25,000 I can give myself and my two young children a great time off and vacation. Being a single mother while in this field and still continuing my masters degree has been the greatest struggle but the best fulfillment in my life. I can also pay out my student loans so that I can obtain more money for other things. If I can I also would like to give some of the money to my school community as well are in dire need of supplies and communication devices for our students who cannot speak.
