Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I want every kid to know that someone believes in them and thinks they are worthwhile.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had a student who kept falling asleep at school and most teachers and administrators just yelled at him for it. I asked him if there was a reason. As it turned out, his mom had cancer and he was taking care of his younger siblings all night and two of them were in diapers. Once I found this out I was able to get his family some assistance so that he did not have to try to handle everything himself. He was so relieved that he cried. At that moment I knew for sure I was where I needed to be.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it to help two elderly retired teachers I know who are struggling financially to make ends meet. I would also help buy school supplies for students who can't afford them.
