Ms. Tieara Parris

I became a teacher because I knew I wanted a life-changing, enjoyable, and fulfilling career. I wanted to indulge into education to help the students who struggled the most and those who were often overlooked. Being a 3rd generation educator, I’ve always observed from my mother and grandmother that the relationships built with students and families last a lifetime. From my experience in general and special education, I believe students appreciate the teachers that really care. I love what I do!

My most memorable moment was when I taught 4th grade. I had a student with special needs who wanted to participate in the science fair. I helped buy his materials and would stay after school with him to help him complete it. He was so proud of his project and participating in the science fair. After the fair, I noticed much more confidence, drive, and participation in class. All he needed was someone to show him he could do it. And that was all I needed to go into special education.

The $25,000 would be a great contribution to my classroom for supplies and other materials that I could use to enhance their learning. Some of my students require diapers, assistive technology, and sensory items. I would use any remaining money to go toward purchasing my first house. I live and teach in Atlanta, Georgia, where the cost of living does not compare to teacher salary. I would love to have a house to call home and storage for teacher supplies.
