To create a sanctuary for self-expression. As a Black queer African woman, my community has faced the harsh intersections of identity and the erasure of our existence throughout history. I recognize the scarcity of safe environments for my community, where bullying and devaluation are all too common. I strive to counteract every negative voice, serving as a mentor, inspiration, and beacon of authenticity for my students. By being Ms. O, I hope to empower them to embrace their own identities.

Self-advocacy is vital for identity, especially for students facing injustice. A student of mine named Jada had noticed Black students being excluded from a field trip. She bravely spoke up and sought my support. Together, we addressed the racism and had the trip redone with me as a chaperone, including all her Black classmates. Her courage in advocating for herself and her peers was inspiring, highlighting systemic racism in schools and sparking change. I was immensely proud of her.

With $25,000, I would bridge the resource gaps in underprivileged Black communities where systemic racism stifles self-expression. Many students come from harsh backgrounds, lacking access to art. This funding would provide supplies, programs, and workshops, empowering Black youth to create. By sharing my resources and privileges, I aim to cultivate a sanctuary of creativity, healing, and inspiration. Together, we can break barriers and unleash their true potential.
