Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I think every kid deserves an adult in their lives that truly cares for them and wants to see them succeed. I had many adults throughout my life cheering me on and it breaks my heart to know some are not so fortunate. I want to be the cheerleader that pushes students to be the very best version of themselves and to take every opportunity to grow their character.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience has to be when my Advisory (study hall) class threw a gender reveal when I was pregnant with my now 10 month old baby. Those 8th graders were my 7th graders the year before (and my first group of kids to teach ever) and so we grew very close. It was so sweet seeing how excited they were for me! I told a couple girls the gender and they hand cut pink construction paper into confetti and funneled it into a balloon that they popped. I’ll never forget it!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would save the $25,000 for a college fund for my baby girl someday! I was blessed to have parents that financially helped me get a college degree to be a teacher and I want to be able to bless my own children the same way. This money would be a huge step in that direction.
