I was once unseen—undiagnosed until college. Now, I build a classroom where learning is a mirror, a window, and a revolution.

I experienced how the system mislabels students with learning differences, often dismissing them as lazy or disruptive. I was one of those students. This drove me to create inclusive classrooms where all learners feel valued and capable. My goal is to transition into administration and policy to drive systemic reform, ensuring education is equitable, innovative, and responsive to diverse student needs.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThe other teachers described it as “skiing down a black diamond blindfolded—and still winning the race.” During my student teaching amid COVID-19, my mentor asked me to cover her 5th-grade class on their first day back. It was hailing, I knew no one, and the students had never been in a classroom together. With masks on, I led the full day as a sub observed. Mid-lesson on rock formations, the principal and superintendent asked if I was a science specialist- an affirmation of my purpose.
What would you do with the $25,000?With $25,000, I would pay off student loans and fund my education. I earned a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and am now pursuing a second master’s, an administrative credential, and a Doctorate in Education. I’m also a National Board Certification candidate, which my district does not fund. With over $40,000 in debt—set to double—this support would ease financial strain, allowing me to continue my lifelong commitment to education and leadership.
