Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe in the power of education to change lives. I wanted to create a positive, supportive environment where students could grow, discover their potential, and build confidence. Inspired by the teachers who helped me overcome challenges, I wanted to give back by guiding others. Teaching allows me to make a lasting impact, not just academically, but in helping students develop skills and self-belief that will serve them for life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In my first year as a 6th-grade teacher, Javier, a shy student, struggled with confidence during a group project. Javier was hesitant to contribute, so I encouraged him to take charge of the writing part of the presentation. Over time, his confidence grew. When he presented, he was nervous but proud, and the class applauded. That moment reminded me why I became a teacher—to empower students, help them find their voice, and build their confidence.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would invest in classroom resources, including books, technology, and hands-on materials, to enrich my students’ learning. I’d also use part of the funds for field trips and extracurricular activities to expand their educational experiences. Additionally, I would allocate a portion toward my own professional development, ensuring I continue to grow as an educator and provide the best possible support to my students.
