Sharing music with my students is as rewarding as it is addictive. Seeing them perform is fulfilling and beautiful.

As a middle schooler I struggled with school in many aspects. I had trouble finding my place, staying organized, and managing my time. My Chorus teacher, Mr. Champion, gave me an outlet for something I excelled in, music. I took the lessons I learned in his class and applied them to the rest of my experiences and completely changed as a student. I knew I wanted to give my students the same outlet and "home" at school. In eighth grade I decided to become a Music Educator.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI began my career in Savannah, Georgia at a middle school for six years. I built a thriving program full of kids who loved making music together. I eventually moved to Atlanta and continued teaching. While with my new students at an auditioned state event, my old middle schoolers (now in high school) approached me. There were so many! Some I knew would be there, but also students who I never thought would continue. I've never been prouder. I still have that picture of those 26 kids on my desk.
What would you do with the $25,000?I think most educators would say "we love the job, but not the paycheck..." My husband endured a horrific accident 3 years ago and nearly lost his leg. After help from several surgeons he recovered, but surviving on a single (Educator) income for so long took it's toll. I would be thrilled to rebuild our savings and finally take the vacation we have always dreamed of!
