Tell us why you became a teacher

I’ve always had a deep love for the next generation, assisting them to think of how they can be of service, and developing them into leaders in their communities. My driving principle came from the idea of being who I needed when I was younger. In order to accomplish this, I always found myself reflecting on the quote “Progress is most easily achieved in an environment imbued with love.” At the end of the day it is a labor of love for why we do this, and all kids want to feel loved.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

As a teacher and coach, many of the kids who are on our teams, and in our classes, we often will spend more time with than many members of our own families. Being able to build those relationships with them and their families on a day to day are some of my most memorable moments and my greatest privilege as a teacher. Teaching social studies is exceptionally special as you get to hear your kids ideas about the world, and how they think they can be a catalyst of change for certain issues.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I always try to make sure all of my kids have everything they need in my class, and out of it, in order to be successful. With this money, it will help me ensure I can continue to provide my students with the things they need to be successful, and also help to finally finish off my students loans. It would also allow me to go and finish my masters and work to my goal of serving students as a principal. Thank you all for the opportunity to be of greater service to my kids through this program.
