Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because science has always filled me with wonder, and I wanted to share that excitement with my students. There’s nothing like seeing their eyes light up with curiosity as they discover the world’s phenomena. Teaching is more than science—it’s about connecting with students, hearing their stories, building trust, and creating a space where they feel safe and valued. My goal is to inspire the next generation to not just learn science, but to love it.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments was when my freshman biology students surprised me with a birthday party. They decorated the room, made a cake, and even created a slideshow about me. Another class heard the commotion and joined in to sing. In that moment, I truly felt the impact of the connections I had built. It was a reminder that teaching isn’t just about lessons, it’s about the relationships that make the work so meaningful.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded this prize, I would donate a portion to a local charity I previously volunteered with, an organization whose mission I deeply believe in. I would also give some to my parents, whose unwavering support has shaped the person and educator I am today. The remainder would go toward securing my future, allowing me to dedicate myself fully to what I love most: inspiring students and making science exciting and accessible for all.
